About Me

Hello fellow bloggers and readers!!
I’m 51 and live with my little family of 3 and our scruffy old cairn-terrier cross in a leafy suburb in Southern Sydney.  I'm a social worker but haven’t worked since July 2019 and am slowly going bonkers. My 12 year old still needs supervision but can pretty much look after herself now and let’s face it- she’d rather be quarantined in a cage at the back of a garage ( so long as there is WI FI), than spend time hanging out with mum…and whilst I love my carpet to be free of dog wee stains and my home to smell like vanilla, housework just doesn’t do it for me.
"Honey"our little rescue

Why am I blogging? Unlike a lot of time poor souls out there, I actually have too much time on my hands. I’ve done all the things you only dream of when you’re working – stayed in my PJ's till noon, watched Netflix all day till my bum ached, read books and magazines, made new recipes and had lunch with friends. And now, I’m bored. So part of the motivation behind this new blog, is to give myself a little project, a diversion from the tedium and confidence busting predicament of being out of work. That, and because I like to write and always have something to say- much to the chagrin of my long suffering husband. The other reason is that well, I’m a little lonely to be honest. All my friends are working so not only am I not getting the social benefit of working, but there is no one to spend my free time with.

What else can I tell you about myself? I love kayaking, native birds, board games, reading, writing, theatre, vintage décor, cooking chorizo over a camp fire and pub trivia.
I’m not a gym person and not terribly fashion conscious, certainly don’t give a shit about brands. I’m a bit of a dag and goofy – I love the 3 stooges and swear like a sailor.   I don’t understand sarcasm and think it is mean when directed at a person, although I do have a secret crush on Gordon Ramsay.  I have a tendency to whinge but want to balance this with sharing what makes me laugh as I love to see the funny side of life – the irony, the paradoxes, the absurd.

love vintage
What will I blog about? So, my blog will be part commentary, allowing me to rant about certain issues that piss me off or concern me, part personal and include a weekly challenge that will get me out and about.  The term "challenge"may be a stretch but it'll be a weekly assignment.  Whilst our cosy house feels very much like a mountain cabin tucked away from crowds and noise and pollution, it can be a little isolating. I do need my urban fix of cafes, shops and grafitti  for balance and to feel connected to others. So each week I'm going to visit a Sydney suburb accessible by train, and enjoy whatever its main street has to offer then share this with you. I hope you enjoy my weekly excursions and can relate in some way to my way of viewing the world.
